Partial Dentures

At Halton Denture Clinic & Implant Solutions we offer various types of Partial dentures. Our patients can choose from basic Acrylic Dentures to Chromium Cobalt Cast Partial Dentures – which have a combination of durable materials.

We offer a variety of Partial dentures that can be constructed from an assortment of different materials. The design process involved in creating a removable partial denture is specific to each patient’s needs. Everyday chewing forces place a strain on the remaining teeth during eating led to further damage to your dentition. Partial dentures are designed with this in mind, so that the chewing forces can be distributed evenly over the entire remaining teeth and soft tissues.

What Are Partial Dentures?

Partial dentures are usually made to replace one or more teeth and to keep the underlying structure of your mouth. Depending on the teeth remaining in your oral cavity, Partial dentures may be completely tooth supported, tissue/tooth supported, and implant/tissue supported.

Partial dentures help prevent shifting of other teeth and will increase your confidence with eating, speaking, and smiling without hesitation. Contact us today to book a consultation!

Different Types Of Partial Dentures

Cast Partial Dentures

Cast Partial Dentures are the most appropriate prosthesis to replace several missing teeth. Made from a surgical dental grade metal alloy (Chromium Cobalt) and acrylic composition. Cast partials dentures are stronger structurally, thinner, and more hygienic than an acrylic partial. They can also be designed to add teeth to them in the future. Our clinic has a certified Dental Laboratory on site and can perform this procedure same day.

Flexible Partial Denture

Flexible Partial Dentures also known as Valplast Dentures are made from dental grade nylon material. Due to its thermoplastic properties, they are thinner than acrylics. Their physical properties make them durable, and virtually unbreakable. They are known to be as the most biocompatible material for removable dentures, particularly for patients with allergic reactions to acrylics. Flexible Partial Dentures materials do not contain BPA and resist absorbing odours or stains.

Hybrid Cast Partial Denture

These dentures have a combination of durable materials with great aesthetics in mind. Clasps/hooks that retain the denture in the mouth are made from clear/pink nylon material to blend with your mount and not show any metal clasps on your teeth. Hybrid Cast Partial dentures are easy to maintain since they allow teeth to be added to the denture if more are lost. When your gums recede, the denture can be relined.

Partial Dentures FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Most patients adjust to their new partial dentures within about a week. You may experience some minor difficulties with speech and eating initially, but with daily practice you’ll get used to your partial dentures in no time!
Partial dentures are designed to fill in spaces of missing teeth to preserve the placement of your remaining teeth. Not only are they designed to look and feel just like your natural teeth, a properly fitted partial denture also provides support for your lips, jaw, and facial muscles. With additional support and filling in the gaps of missing teeth, partial dentures will enhance your smile and your overall jaw shape.

If you’ve just recently started wearing a partial denture, a denturist will provide instructions for how long you should wear them. At first, you may be instructed to wear them overnight to get used to the feeling and to promote healing.

After the initial adjustment period, it’s common practice to remove partial dentures overnight. This allows your gum tissues to rest and recover from the constant pressure that’s exerted on them throughout the day.

With normal wear and tear and good denture care habits, most partial dentures should last for roughly 7-10 years. Replacement is recommended after this time period to ensure a proper fit as your mouth and tissues change shape and structure over the years.

If your partial denture doesn’t fit properly, serious oral health complications can occur. Consult with a denturist regularly to make sure that your partial dentures are fitting well.

A partial denture will not limit your ability to eat your favorite foods. In fact, a properly fitting partial dentures can enhance your ability to chew and help you enjoy some foods that you otherwise might not be able to eat.

Keep in mind that it will take some time to get used to eating with your partial dentures. We suggest starting with softer foods and working your way up slowly towards your regular diet.

Your speech will be affected initially while you get used to wearing your partial dentures. The amount of time it takes to become comfortable speaking with your new partial dentures varies from person to person. On average, it takes up to 2 weeks to get fully acclimated and comfortable speaking with your partial dentures.
